Flat Feet Statistics in Children: Research Results

Small Feet, Big Problem: Is Our Children’s Foot Health in Serbia Truly Healthy?

Lazar Ignjatović | 4-minute read

Following our successful campaign in Pirot and Dimitrovgrad, where we collected and analyzed 1,338 footprints, it is time to share the truth about the condition of our children’s feet. The goal of this research wasn’t just statistics, but an answer to a key question: How many children actually walk correctly?

The data we received is alarming and requires the immediate attention of parents, educators, and specialists.

Methodology: A Fusion of Medicine and AI Technology

Each of the 1,338 prints underwent rigorous verification. Children used specialized tools that leave a precise print, similar to what you can now do at home using our app.

To ensure maximum accuracy, medical specialists from the Tiršova Institute personally reviewed, labeled, and graded every print. Their expert assessment is the foundation upon which we built our analysis.

Expert validation: Every result is confirmed by specialists Professional validation: Every result is confirmed by clinical experts.

Results: What Do the Numbers Tell Us?

The analysis of individual footprints revealed a wide spectrum of conditions. The largest percentage of children fall into the “regular” or “borderline” zones, meaning prevention is key right now.

Category (Arch) Percentage Status and Recommendation
High Arch (0) 1.7% Consultation with a doctor is required.
Healthy (0.1-25) 7.4% Excellent foot condition.
Regular (25.1-40) 35.3% Good, with regular physical activity.
Borderline Healthy (40.1-45) 17.6% Preventive exercises are recommended.
Borderline Flat (45.1-50) 12.1% Consider exercises to prevent worsening.
Flat (50.1-60) 12.6% Noticeable flatness; targeted exercises recommended.
Severely Flat (60.1-100) 12.5% Appropriate program and professional advice needed.

Chart showing children’s foot health statistics: 31.66% Healthy, 25.58% Borderline range, 42.76% Flat feet. Visual overview of general health: More than half of the children require attention or preventive measures.

Devastating Statistics at the Child Level

When we observe each child as a whole (both feet), asymmetry and the frequency of deformities become even clearer:

  • 31.66% of children have completely healthy feet.
  • 25.58% of children are in the borderline range (at risk of deformity).
  • 42.76% of children have diagnosed flat feet.

Conclusion: Less than one-third of children have healthy feet. This is a clear signal that we must stop waiting for the problem to “pass on its own.”
